“Account disabled” in MT5

SYMPTOM

The terminal reports "Account disabled" or the account stopped accepting logins.

Causes, most likely first

1. An inactive demo account was archived

Brokers archive demo accounts after weeks of inactivity, and an archived account refuses login in a way that reads as disabled. Nothing is recoverable and nothing needs to be — open a new demo. If the account is live and merely unfunded, some brokers close those too after a period.

2. A prop firm account was breached

Prop firms disable the account the moment a drawdown rule is violated, sometimes mid-session with positions still open. If this is an evaluation or funded account, check the firm dashboard before blaming the terminal. See prop firm account failed.

3. A compliance or verification hold

Brokers disable trading while documents are pending, after a chargeback, or when a payment is under review. Login sometimes still works in read-only mode. Only support can say which, and the answer is in your email more often than people check.

4. It is not disabled — the login is wrong

A login against the wrong trade server produces errors people read as "account disabled". Before contacting anyone, confirm the exact server name from the account email. See authorization failed.

Why this happens

The terminal cannot tell you which of these happened — it only relays that the server refused the account. The broker or firm dashboard is authoritative, and the fastest diagnostic is simply whether the account still appears there.

If an EA was running on the account when it was disabled, any open positions may still exist on the server side. That is a support conversation, and it is urgent in a way the login problem itself is not.
